Happy to announce that we are expecting a little boy March 2015!!! Everyone… and I mean everyone said it would be a boy. I thought it would be a girl just because everyone was convinced it was a boy ha ha. But I spotted the boy parts before the nurse even announced it and shouted out “It’s a Boy!” We never really had a certain preference of what we wanted the baby to be, we thought it would be great if it was a boy so we would have one of each but also great if it was a girl so Emilia would have a sister. But my pregnancy did differ from Emilia’s (I’ll make a new post on that soon) so I started thinking it was a boy too, especially when every symptom I had, my mom claimed she had with my brother.
Jose and my mom both had to work the day of my appointment where I would hopefully find out the gender, so my best friend Lizeth flew into Tucson so she could go with me. With Emilia I was so excited to find out the gender as soon as I got pregnant but I was more laid back with this pregnancy. I was more concerned with making sure everything was OK. Especially since Emilia passed on Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease to me when I was only 5 weeks pregnant. Even though the doctor said it wasn’t a cause for concern while pregnant, it was always was in the back of my mind. So I just really wanted to make sure everything was good with the baby! Lucky for us the baby was absolutely perfect!! The nurse said there is no concern at all and he looked great. He was rolling around in the ultrasound and grabbing his little toes.
I kept the gender a secret from Jose and tortured him with the non-boy photos and still referred to the baby as an “it.” I wanted to surprise him when he got h0me so I bought a bunch of blue balloons and streamers which I filled our entry way with. As soon as he opened the door, he spotted the blue and ran towards me with kisses and hugs. He said he was secretly hoping for a boy and was so excited. Everyone else’s reaction was “I told you so!”
We are naming our son Rafael Alfonso after Jose’s father who passed away when he was younger. Even though I never was lucky enough to meet his dad, I felt he raised the great man I know today and he was loved by many. So we really wanted to honor his memory! We always knew if we had a son we would name him Rafael and even based Emilia’s full name around it to make sure the two went well together. Dedicated, I know! Ha ha.
This week I will be 20 weeks and it’s crazy to think I am almost halfway done with this pregnancy. Time passed by so quickly and I’m so excited to meet our little boy!! This will be my last pregnancy and we are done having kids after him, so I’m really enjoying every moment. Now I’m excited to plan his nursery and start shopping. I feel so blessed with our family and am so happy!
